R. A. Foakes is Professor Emeritus at the Department of English, UCLA. His publications include editions of six of Shakespeare's plays, among them A Midsummer Night's Dream for the New Cambridge Shakespeare (1984), Illustrations of the English Stage 1580-1642 (1985), Hamlet versus Lear (1993), and Henslowe's Diary (2nd edn, 2002).
